There was a broken implementation of this that we had to remove because it was causing crashes: http://tracker.ceph.com/issues/17270 https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/11262 However, as Greg points out on that PR, it would be a good thing to actually have this behaviour, so I'm creating this ticket for adding it back, and I'll ping Jianpeng Ma Majian Peng who wrote the original patch that did merging.
