Description

There was a broken implementation of this that we had to remove because it was causing crashes:

https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/11262

However, as Greg points out on that PR, it would be a good thing to actually have this behaviour, so I'm creating this ticket for adding it back, and I'll ping Jianpeng Ma who wrote the original patch that did merging.
