Description

Robert Sander asks whether Ceph supports dual-stack mode. Dual-stack mode is when both IPv4 and IPv6 networks are used to register the same OSDs.

According to Stefan Kooman, Radoslaw Zarzynski said that the "enable dual stack" PRs were "more or less 'accidentally'" merged.

Dan van der Ster wrote to me on 23 Apr 2024 and asked me to disambiguate the part of the RADOS documentation that refers to dual-stack mode. The section of https://docs.ceph.com/en/latest/rados/configuration/network-config-ref/#ipv4-ipv6-dual-stack-mode containing information about dual-stack mode was added by Matthew Oliver on 10 Aug 2020 in commit 9f75df. The part section of https://docs.ceph.com/en/latest/rados/configuration/msgr2 containing information about dual-stack mode was added by Sage Weil on 09 Mar 2019 in commit 60fab6.

I will remove references to dual-stack mode in the documentation because it seems to me that this was a planned-but-never-finished feature. Before this is merged, I will have Radoslaw review the changes that I make to verify their accuracy.
