It could be integrated into cmds? Maybe something like,
cmds -i 0 --dump-journal /tmp/foo
(just to avoid distributing another binary in the package...)
?

Pushed to branch dumpjournal, and merged into unstable in 4df92adea46730bdb7cb88290203cad2369ed895.
Tested briefly on a few different runs and it seems to work.
