Description

Created my cluster with mkcephfs, and distribute a common ceph.conf to all nodes with monitors and osd stanzas defined. Since Dumpling, ceph creates a bunch of unneeded 0-byte log files. On every node, I see cepm-mon.[a,b,c].log and ceph-osd.[0-xx].log where xx is the highest number osd in production. Confirmed on irc by wrencsok.

I have this exact same behavior since updating to dumpling. It only seems to affect dumpling. Cuttlefish and earlier clusters do not show this clutter in /var/log/ceph. This will complicate things for people who use central logging servers for all the nodes in their clusters.

  1. dsh -a 'ls -al /var/log/ceph/| wc -l'

This should be marked as Resolved as Firefly does not suffer from this issue.

On the other hand, it may be a good idea to backport the fix to Dumpling and Emperor before closing this issue.

this isn't important enough to backport to dumpling at this point
