re: the picture in https://docs.ceph.com/en/pacific/rados/configuration/network-config-ref/ -- the mon and mds also use the cluster network to access osds, no?

By and large I'm loathe to disagree with Dan, but I've mostly had mons on dedicate nodes that weren't even connected to the replication network (if any). My understanding is that MDS are the same way, that any replication network present is only used by OSDs to talk to each other: heartbeats, peering, and recovery.
