Description
The backport https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/38839 (https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/48738) fails when using Python3. See comment https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/38839/files#r593804874.
A try ... catch statement should fix that issue for Python2 and Python3 environments.
