Description
While testing #3543 (but that shouldn't be related to this issue), I restarted the MDS and ran into a case where the client was sending uncommitted transactions in a loop, which the MDS was short-circuiting as REPLAYed operations. When I went to the client to look into why it wasn't moving on, I saw that it was throwing out the MDS replies as old messages and discarding them.
Low-debug-level logs from this (as well as another issue) are on kai in my logs/replay_bad_event folder.

Never mind, this turned out to be another encoding issue. Phew!
