Once https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/30672 passes "make check", cherry-pick it to luminous via this backport tracker issue.
When/if the luminous backport is merged, ping the author of https://github.com/ceph/ceph/pull/29788 because that PR will need rebasing, and to ask him to see if the issue is still reproducible on the tip of luminous.
