Description
When running a large number of jobs (> 20), many instances share the same initial setup:
- same operating system
- same run of ceph-cm-ansible
- same install task
It would be beneficial to save these intermediate steps as volume snapshots and re-use them when possible. When provisioning an instance, the OpenStack backend could:
- analyze the job_config and look for volume snapshots that match the same initial sequence
- boot an instance from the volume snapshot
- modify the job config to start where the snapshot was when it was saved
The benefit would be to save time (getting to the completion of the install task can take from ten to twenty minute per instance) and bandwidth (the install task pulls ~1.5GB from the packages mirror).
