Description

The ceph-test-dbg debian package is ~2GB big and it takes over 5 minutes on a Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2620 v2 @ 2.10GHz to compress.

History

https://github.com/dachary/ceph/compare/wip-10443-ceph-test?expand=1 removes the ceph-test-dbg package entirely. It is not made into a pull request because it probably is not a good idea.

there is no way to fix this

I stumbled upon this while building test packages. It's single-threaded, too. Takes 26 minutes for me.

Perhaps it makes sense to override the compression type for that specific package (and perhaps ceph-dbg too, ISTR that one took a while too) to something other than lzma/xz? My ceph-test-dbg package is ~3.2GB. Compressed size is ~580MB with xz, and ~881MB with gzip, but xz takes ~26m while gzip only takes 2m40 on a Xeon E5-2430L (2GHz). Maybe only go with xz for release builds or something like that?
