Redmine Ceph - Feature #11900 (Resolved): introduce and document single-command procedure to pull drive f...https://tracker.ceph.com/issues/119002015-06-05T21:39:30ZFederico Lucifredifederico@redhat.com

Description of problem:

User would like a command/script to manually remove a disk, and include in official documentation a manual procedure to set individual disk to zero-weight and pull. It is understood there is a way to do this already, what is desired is simple UX via a single command.

Too much understanding needed on part of user to pull a disk out of the cluster. this should be "something a person paid $7 an hour can do", without knowing what's happening underneath, says user.
Ceph - Bug #11101 (Resolved): ceph tell: broken error message / misleading hintinghttps://tracker.ceph.com/issues/111012015-03-11T19:57:50ZFederico Lucifredifederico@redhat.com

Description of problem:

root@master:~# ceph osd tell
"osd tell" is deprecated; try "tell osd.
" instead (id can be "*")
root@master:~# ceph tell osd.*
Cannot use 'tell' with interactive mode
root@master:~#

Expected results:

I am not in interactive mode!

Besides that, I'd want the hint to point me to something I can try out without further understanding, like

"osd tell" is deprecated; try "tell osd.
bench" instead (id can be "*")

"ceph osd tell"
is mentioned in the "top 10 commands" blogs in several places and on the ceph wiki - separately requested a fix there. That gets users started down this path, just like it did me.
