Redmine RADOS - Bug #54180 (Resolved): In some cases osdmaptool takes forever to completehttps://tracker.ceph.com/issues/541802022-02-07T14:44:04ZJosh Salomon

with the attached file run the command:
osdmaptool osdmap.GD.bin --upmap out-file --upmap-deviation 1 --upmap-pool default.rgw.buckets.data --upmap-max 25
on my laptop it takes 13 minutes to complete - the whole time is wasted in OSDMap::calc_pg_upmaps function. It eventually completes. Note that it runs OK for smaller values of --upmap-max, then it suddenly starts to become extremely slow.

I plan to post a PR for fixing this (on my laptop from 13 minutes to 15 seconds).
mgr - Bug #53559 (In Progress): Balancer bug - very slow performance (minutes) in some caseshttps://tracker.ceph.com/issues/535592021-12-09T09:56:36ZJosh Salomon

When running osdmaptool with the attached file, it works fine for --upmap-max values up to 15 (0.5 seconds) when --upmap-max is 16 it completes in 20 seconds, for 17 it is almost 2 minutes and I did not try further, for 25 it did not complete in 10 minutes. This was verified also against older stable version [14.2.11-95.el8cp (1d6087ae858e7c8e72fe7390c3522c7e0d951240) nautilus (stable)]
The command line that creates the problem is
osdmaptool osdmap.GD.bin --upmap out.txt --upmap-deviation 1 --upmap-pool default.rgw.buckets.data --upmap-max 25

(you need upmap deviation 1 because otherwise there are less than 15 changes as this pool is relatively balanced)
sepia - Support #47867 (Resolved): Sepia Lab Access Requesthttps://tracker.ceph.com/issues/478672020-10-15T09:07:03ZJosh Salomon
