Users have repeatedly voiced the need to convert/modify an EC profile while the cluster was running, in response to changing cluster utilization and availability needs.
Currently, this is a very invasive operation requiring creating a new pool and manually copying/moving the data and all references to it.
The users have asked to instead be able to apply a new EC profile to an existing pool and that'd overtime convert objects to the new layout.

(Similar to how md raid allows RAID level changes.)

I understand this is a massive request, but at least let's put it on the list in case someone wants a master's thesis project ;-)
