Description

I have used this way of i18n in many projects.

  • There are perfect tools like poedit
  • It fully supports plurals
  • It fully supports contexts
  • It has scanners and perfect set of tools to scan and update translation catalogs
  • Translators are familiar with this format
  • .po is git-friendly (comparing to XML)

The main advantage is that it is widely used and standard.

So, if authors agree with that change, I can start working on that.

Thank you for this suggestion. I assume you're referring to the Ceph Dashboard with your comment, as I'm currently not aware of any other Ceph component that supports I18N.

Unfortunately the framework used by the Dashboard (Angular) does not support gettext for managing translations, it uses XLIFF files instead of PO files. See https://angular.io/guide/i18n for more details on the implementation.

However, as a dashboard translator you don't really need to be bothered by the underlying details. We're using Transifex for managing the translations: https://www.transifex.com/ceph/ceph-dashboard/dashboard/
