Regarding the two ways of using rbd on baremetal: krbd and rbd-nbd, is there a preference of which way to use, which should be the suggested way from reliability aspect?

This is a better question for the ceph-users mailing list instead of opening tracker ticket. rbd-nbd provides all the features supported by librbd, so if you need object-map or journaling, you should use rbd-nbd. Otherwise, krbd is probably the correct choice.
