This will be a living document, more reasons added as time progresses.

Another similar one will probably be started once 12.10 comes out.

Some more details:

The kernel that comes with 12.04 is old. This ticket requests a place in the documentation (FAQ, maybe?) that discusses what's new in the latest stable kernel and why users might want to use it instead.
